This training is required for all registered volunteers who intend to serve on the Agency Review volunteer citizen panel.  Volunteers on this panel will review, score, and proposed funding recommendations for the distribution of human services funds for FY 2026-27.  

Volunteers participating will need to be comfortable with learning electronically and have the ability or experience to access the video conference platform ZOOM.   

Three training sessions are available - Only one (1) Session is required to attend, select the session (shift) for the day and time you want to attend.

Thank you for your consideration to sign up as an interested volunteer to help operate our Tempe Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site for the 2026 tax filing season.  VITA is an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) directed program.  Tempe Community Council hosts a Tempe site where any income-eligible taxpayer can have their tax returns prepared and filed for free.  

This is a vital service for our community saving taxpayers many dollars that would be spent paying for a tax filing service.  In addition, our IRS-certified volunteers ensure clients are obtaining all the tax credits possible.  

To operate the tax site many volunteer positions are needed and available, including: greeter, screener, quality review,  tax preparer, community resource advisor and site coordinator.  This service cannot be provided without volunteers like you.  

We are currently recruiting volunteers for our 2026 tax filing season for 2025 tax returns. 

Free training will be offered for the various tax site positions, including IRS-certification training for all tax preparer positions.  Training for certification begins in November, is self-paced online or in-person.  The tax site opens in late January through April 15.  The days and times the tax site will be open in 2026 are to be determined.
